rip curl pro - you gotta win it to ring it

One of the events that I was dying to visit here in Australia has always been the famous Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Torquay. Each year over Easter the creme de la creme of international surfing heads down to the Victorian coast as part of the ASP World Tour.

After a failed attempt on Sunday (it was booked out), we returned to Bells Beach yesterday morning - the sky was blue, sun was out, swell was good - perfect day for hanging at the beach and watching some amazing surf action. We watched a couple of heats of the Men round 5, followed by the highlight of the day - the women final! So exciting! We didn't even know that the women final was on schedule, so it was great to be there and see the girls rock the waves! It was Carissa Moore (Hawaii - white shirt) against Tyler Wright (Australia - red shirt), which Carissa winning for the first time at Bells.

The Rip Curl Pro is famous for the ringing of the bells (as the competition is on Bells Beach). "You gotta win it to ring it!" is the claim and Carissa got to ring the bells up on the stage. I tried to get some decent shots, but the crowd was just to big (and I way in the back).

Such a great event and with 8 AUD entry fee it is reasonable priced - makes it even more fun!

  2. What a fun event. I'm shocked that it was so cheap! I've always wondered how surf competitions work because the water and waves can be so unpredictable. Glad you had a great Easter weekend.

  4. Yeah, sieht richtig cool aus und ich stell mir das gerade richtig gut vor. :-)
Entspannt am Strand stehen, Bier/Saft/was Süßes in der Hand und den genialen Tricks der Surfer zugucken. Schön.

We spent Easter weekend touring Norway - gorgeous scenery but no chocolate.
