I was looking forward to this past Saturday for a couple of weeks already. Something big was about to happen in the city of Melbourne. I love events that include music, art and funky illuminations. And if the event is for free and running the whole night - well that is my kind of heaven.
It was time for the first ever Melbourne White Night!
The White Nights festivals are all-night art festivals held in many different cities across the world (as in Paris, St Petersburg, Montreal, Rome and Toronto to name a few). Most of the events and attractions are for free and it is perfect for wandering aimlessly through the city and just take it all in. Well in reality, the approx 300 000 people visiting the city made it quite impossible to just wander around in a relaxed way, but we still made the best of it.
I especially loved the illuminations on the buildings along Flinders Street and the open-air dancefloor on Federation Square (with 100s of disco balls hanging over the square) where the crowd had lessons in different dances such as salsa, thriller dance, line dancing etc. So much fun!
We had a great time and will for sure come back next year!
Have you ever been to a White Night festival in your city? What did you think? *K
